Tribute to the Summer of 2010! These are the Days by G.A.M.M.A. THESE ARE THE DAYS Mixed By: G.A.M.M.A. A tribute to the Summer of 2010 performed at Memories Well summer has approached, stopped, sat with us, and is now casually starting to move away. The sun is noticeably going down earlier and coming up later. Temperatures have been moderate so far this summer and has left us with a very pleasant summer feeling. Not too often do you wish it was a little warmer during summer here in Sacramento. This years warmer season has definitely carried more weight with me. My mixes are always a reflection of my surroundings as well as my inner feelings. This summer has been very emotional for me. Loosing Arnie Benson in the beginning of the summer was tough, he was a dear friend and a great community leader. Watching my Design Office get dismantled through several Company layoffs to the point of closing the office,(luckily I've been moved to work from home). Add to that not being sure where I'll be living next month. The owners of the house I live in like many other owners right now have foreclosed on the house. I might be able to stay, I might have to move. Definitely feels like a trying time, but with all the hills, comes some valley's too. As the Stilldream 10 Year approached I found myself at some of the best events that one could ask for, with some of the best people one could ask to be around. Tons of wonderful great memories at events like Harmony Festival (Santa Rosa), Gemini (Area101), Cherish (SF) Lightning in a Bottle (LA), Flowr Powr(Sac), FnF 15 Year (NorCal), The Boom is Back (outside Portland), Dude Where's My Tent 2 (Michigan), Karma (Reno) and the Stilldream 10 Year Anniversary. Its been a pleasure to watch friendships and bonds grow stronger as we add another years journey to our lives. Its also been amazing to see all the growth as a culture we are experiencing, lots of awesome expression going on out there! Keep it up everyone, its beautiful! Stilldream turning 10 Years old, was watching a dream come to reality. Just thinking about the joy of that event makes me want to roar at the sky, grab my nearest friends and family, and thank life for this beautiful existence that we have the opportunity of experiencing. All the ups and downs, gives us major perspective. Be thankful for what you have. The outdoor season I always find myself playing more progressive music, whether it be progressive house, trance, breakbeats, techno.... you name it. If its progressive, the outdoor events make me just want to bring that sound; tough and deep. This year was no different except that I'm stepping out of what most consider for me as normal. This summer the music I found the most inspiring was the progressive, heavy and yet uplifting Dubstep sound it just resonated with how i felt.It pulled at me, the heavy breakbeats, grinding basslines, introspective and uplifting melodies. Being tough and dancey while still being chill, the best of both worlds? This mix was put together over the weekend while at Memories 7,an event dedicated to remembering through celebration the people who have brought joy and inspiration to all of us. This set I dedicate to everyone I've had the pleasure of sharing some of this very special summer with. Whether we were standing side by side, on opposite sides of a field at the same festival or on different sides of the planet. These are the days we will talk about in the years to come.Embrace them. Inspired by the event Prohibition Underground! FINALLY RELEASED!! Prohibition by G.A.M.M.A. This is one of those mixes that come out and make you go hummm. A mix mash of artists, elements and styles. This mix was originally inspired by the event "Prohibition Underground" that took place in November in a small 500 person underground warehouse in West Oakland, California. The place was packed full to the brim and spilling out to the street, filled with all sorts of people wearing flapper dresses, zuit suits, feather boas and derby hats. Quite the site to see. A truly epic event and one that encouraged me to make this mix. Once I started working on this mix I felt that it deserved a lot more time and dedication, so I went back into the lab to work on it some more. Now after bouncing and refining ideas for almost 5 months the mix is finally done. This mix is a truly genre less, a mixture of swing, bohemian, gypsy, spanish, vibes overlaid with some serious techno, house, electro, breaks rhythms... oh yea even a sprinkle of some dub step too! To me this could be the sound track to movies like Naked Lunch. Neither here nor there but lost somewhere in middle of the land controlled by Interzone Incorporated. Its brings you back to simpler times of flapper dress', nice suits, feathers and fedora hats but has that bohemian gypsy undertone that tells you there's something deeper and more menacing behind it all. This mix was based off of the 1920's and 1930's era of Prohibition of Alcohol but I also feel that there is a similar Prohibition going on today. Not of Alcohol, but of free thought. Be wary my friends the thought police are coming, big brother might be hiding behind the next corner, Orson Wells might not be too far off besides the date. It might not be long til we find ourselves needing passwords and secret knocks to get into places of Free will and Expression. The question is where do you sit? Will you be one of the people who sit idly by or will you be one the people that encourage and fight for change!? Its up to us to be heard! Special Thanks to Nick Nyquil and Curty Mc Durty for helping find a few of the missing pieces of this mix that helped tie it all together. Also BIG MONDO thanks to Dina (Dragn'fly), Forest Green, Terri and Phil and anybody else who helped make Prohibition Underground the amazingly awesome event that it was and for all the inspiration it bestowed upon me. And lastly to all the artists on this mix. These guys are really pushing the limitation of music today and making some stuff that is truly off the wall, fun and timeless. Without these guys pushing the envelope this mix wouldn't be possible. Now get on those dress shoes, put on that suit & tie, grab your favorite someone, something to smoke and a flask of your favorite hooch and get ready to get down!
